Google just posted a great video on how their ad auction system works. I always thought it was simply the person who bid the highest would be first but after watching this it’s interesting that they’ve added a quality score in there to encourage advertisers to make their ads more relevant. What also amazes me is that they do this in real-time, every time an ad is shown this process happens before the ad is shown(which we know is super fast); the design and development of that infrastructure is just amazing.
